Happy Halloween

We just wanted to wish everyone a safe and fun Halloween! Be safe out there, but get plenty of candy! The boys and I are going trick or treating again tonight and my oldest is really excited. Why again? Because its free candy I need to get goodie bags put together for my oldest birthday with the candy we don't need. Of course we keep a huge chunk but you can only handle about 20 mini snickers before you want to throw the other 100 away! That is the candy of choice in my area. My oldest is completely in love with his costume, I have a feeling it will be worn out in no time because its going to become a weekly outfit, along with the Cars snow boots! Boys will be boys I guess!

So with all the candy your kids get, how much do you borrow? Do you check candy? Whats your favorite?

My husband and I will be eating the majority I'm sure. My oldest will get a fair amount and well little guy just doesn't need to know about all the goodies out there just yet. We didn't really check candy from the other night, but I remember my parents checking it every year when I was growing up. Don't have a good reason why I didn't, but I should because I would feel horrible if something happened to my boys. It's a priority tonight!!! My favorite this year is Kit Kat's! I swear I can't stop eating them, there isn't a single one left, and I'm not sure if anyone else in the house got one. Oops! Sorry boys!

Have a wonderful, fun, safe night with the kids!

Cleveland Mommies

I've been a SAHM since I had my first little man 3 years ago. It's not the easiest thing to find friends when you are home all day and you are around kids. You get a bad case of mommy brain and your feel like your always using words like "boo boo, ouchie, timeout, great job" and many more. Plus, my 3 year old can't give me the adult conversation about clothing, shopping, crafts etc that I would like to have. We craze the adult conversation and the friends. It's normal, believe me. When I live in Utah, I was apart of an amazing group of women. Salt Lake City Mommies became a mommy place. I met some of the most amazing women on that site and I keep in touch with all of them even though I'm in Ohio now. The friendships last. When I moved to Ohio of course I had to find out if there was a Cleveland Chapter with The Mommies Network. Lucky for me, there is. It's a small group but a great group and always growing. We all know each other well, and are from all over the Cleveland/Akron area. It's nice to have that comfort site again. We are always looking for new moms to the site, if your a soon to be mommy or a many years of experience mommy it doesn't matter. Some moms have babies and others have teens, either way we all have one thing in common......we are moms, looking for friends and things to do. I know there are plenty of moms in the area that are wanting to meet other moms, so why not head over to Cleveland Mommies sign up for an account and get to knowing other people. Tell friends and family about the site. You can never have too many mommies in one area!

200 Fan Giveaway!

I've decided that we need more fans, we need more moms with boys and I'm hoping everyone can help us get to 200 fans....more is always better though! When I do get to 200 I will do a giveaway!!!! So send your friends here, make sure they like the Facebook page and when I get that lucky number I will do my giveaway!!!! So hurry and share share share!

Poison Control

If you have boys, you have either already had to make a call to Poison Control or you are just waiting for the day you have to. I've had to call them a few times thanks to our oldest. Deoderant in the eye, not good, especially if its Secret. It can have aluminum in it and can scratch the eye. Rinse with water, and don't let the little man rub his eye. Hylands teething tablets.....he can eat the whole bottle and be fine. Thank goodness! Mentholatum, warm water in the eye and no rubbing again. Cascade dishwasher packs (swallowed) I can only help if they only digested a little bit....drink water drink water drink water! Obviously, you should always call Poison Control if you have any kind of question. I am in way shape or form telling you to not call and use my advice and experience! Save the numer in your cell so that at all times you have it. It's scary and I hate that my son isn't even 3 and I've called them way too many times. It's important as moms to be ready for anything these boys can throw at us. So go save the number and lock everything up in your home that isn't food or a toy!

White Chicken Chili

Tomorrow night is our ward's Trunk or Treat and Chili Cook Off. Well, I wasn't planning on making a chili because my husband is but after getting an email saying that a small number of people signed up I decided why not? My main goal, to do better then my husband because he has been planning his for a little over a week now. I'm just throwing mine together today. A friend has a cooking blog and Im using her recipe for a White Chicken Chili, I'll add a little more and take somethings. Either way, it will be delish and better then my husbands! Friendly competition within the home is always good!

Here is her recipe:
4 cups water
1 tsp lemon pepper
2 tsp cumin (separated)
2 cubes chicken bouillon
4 chicken breasts, diced
1-2 cloves garlic (can substitute 1/2-1 tsp garlic powder)
1 onion, chopped (can substitute 2 Tbs onion flakes)
1 tsp oil
2 cans white northern beans
2 cans green chilies, chopped
1 can garbanzo beans
1 can shopeg (or white) corn
2-3 tsp lime juice

Combine the water, lemon pepper, 1 tsp cumin, bouillon and chicken and cook for 20 minutes. Saute the garlic and onion in oil (omit this step and the oil if using dehydrated garlic and onions). Combine all the ingredients (do not drain any cans before adding) and add 1 tsp cumin and lime juice and simmer for one hour (or until chili thickens). Serve with grated Monterey Jack cheese on top.

Superman

My oldest likes to remind me that I can't punish him because he is Superman. If this were true, my house would be clean, I wouldn't be going gray, and he would listen all the time (not just sometimes).  I love that he thinks he is Superman and that he can get away with things because of it. I love the growing imagination he has. This Halloween he is going to be Spiderman action hero moves. Again, he thinks he is Spiderman now so of course jumping onto the couch and swinging from the stair rail is normal! Duh mom! Boys are boys, and super heroes are their heroes. He loves his Spiderman costume with built in muscles, perfect for Halloween and case of rainy day dress up!

Dangerous Book for Boys!

Christmas Present Idea for Boys of Any Age!!!!

Before I was even pregnant with our first my husband saw this book in Target and had to buy it. It's full of everything boy! We knew we would have a boy one day so it was a good investment. Little did we know, we would have 2 boys and I could only dream pink. Good thing I didn't buy the girl version of this book, it would still be collecting dust. Our oldest is now going on 3 (where has time gone?) and I was thinking the other day that its time to break out that book. It's time that my husband and our oldest sit down and do some of the more simple things in the book. Paper airplanes being first on the list. What child and father doesn't love paper airplanes? I think even our almost 1 year old would love watching the planes fly, and then he would try to eat them. It's a book that they can use until your son/sons move out, and even then pass it on to grandsons! The book has everything in it, it's a perfect gift for a husband and his son/sons. Plus its under $20 so its afforable for any budget! There is also The Boy Book of Survival, For Boys Only The Biggest Baddest Book Ever, and The Boys Book How to Be the Best at Everything. There are girls books to, but in my home, boys have taken over so no need for me to dream right now.

Google Product Review Says this about the book:
The bestselling book for every boy from eight to eighty, covering essential boyhood skills such as building tree houses, learning how to fish, finding true north, and even answering the age old question of what the big deal with girls is. In this digital age there is still a place for knots, skimming stones and stories of incredible courage. This book recaptures Sunday afternoons, stimulates curiosity, and makes for great father-son activities. The brothers Conn and Hal have put together a wonderful collection of all things that make being young or young at heart fun—building go-carts and electromagnets, identifying insects and spiders, and flying the world's best paper airplanes. The completely revised American Edition includes: The Greatest Paper Airplane in the World The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World The Five Knots Every Boy Should Know Stickball Slingshots Fossils Building a Treehouse Making a Bow and Arrow Fishing (revised with US Fish) Timers and Tripwires Baseball's "Most Valuable Players" Famous Battles-Including Lexington and Concord, The Alamo, and Gettysburg Spies-Codes and Ciphers Making a Go-Cart Navajo Code Talkers' Dictionary Girls Cloud Formations The States of the U.S. Mountains of the U.S. Navigation The Declaration of Independence Skimming Stones Making a Periscope The Ten Commandments Common US Trees Timeline of American History

IX Trick or Treat Street!

Today was a blast! We were able to take the boys to IX Trick or Treat Street. Perfect for kids, rides, candy and everything is for kids 10 and under. Not too scary but enough. My almost 3 year old LOVED it. The rides I think were a huge hit for him. Both boys wore their costumes, Spiderman and a monkey. I think we saw at least 4 other Spidermen with built in muscles. If you didn't make it this weekend and want to do something fun next weekend, other then going door to door for candy, make the trip out there with the kids. They open at 11am on Saturday, so you could easy make the drive, enjoy the place, head home and trick or treat later that day. We were there for about 2 1/2 hours and it was more then enough times. Some rides had longer waits then others but nothing bad at all. We were able to walk onto most of the rides. Tickets are $12 and parking is $8. Tickets are for trick or treating and the rides (pony rides cost $5 and putt putt was $2) You can get tickets from Drug Mart its only $9.99. Big perk for parents is you get a ticket for free admission (one per parent so we were able to get 2) You'll receive one FREE I-X Indoor Amusement Park ticket valid for opening day only-Friday, March 23rd, 2012!! I know we will be going to that next year. Now that we only have to pay for one child, possibly 2. So empty the piggy bank and take the kiddos next weekend or even tomorrow if you want!

Potty Training Disaster

My boys are keeping me busy as usual. My oldest is pretty much potty trained now, except when it comes to poop. He refuses! We have tried everything from bribing to punishishment, he doesn't care. He has told me he would rather go to time out with no ice cream than go poop on the potty. Stubborn much? When he does have to go he will hide, and then when you tell him to come here, he tells you not to look at the poop. He will hold it till he has a pull-up on at night, but big boy pants have had a recent increase of accidents too. It's a battle, and my husband and I are lost as to what to do.

As for the youngest, one day he was sleeping and his older brother was into everything; I needed to shower and knew I couldn't keep him walking around the house. So I put him in their room and let him play with toys. I told him if he had to go potty to hit the wall and I would get him as soon as I could. After my shower I walked by his bedroom door and could smell poop; nothing I haven't smelled before so I just kept getting ready. Then when I went to get him, his pants were missing! I asked him where they were and he shows me that they were under the crib. I don't see poop, but I can smell it. So I ask "Honey, did you poop?" He says "Yeah let me show you!" He closes his door and shows it to me; 3 big streaks across the wall, one on the door and a "pancake" that he was so proud of because it stuck to the wall. I was so mad, this was the first time he had ever done anything like this. It was gross, I made him clean up most of it, while he was telling me that it was disgusting. I took pictures but I'll spare you the sight of it; I'm sure most of you have seen your fair share from your own kids.

The whole thing made me want to scream, instead, I sent it to a website that always gives me something to laugh at. Luckily, since then he hasn't done anything else like that, but he still refuses to poop on the potty! We have even have offered to go buy the $40 Buzz Lightyear that he really wants and a potty party, but no luck!!! Anyone have any ideas on what to do with a boy that won't go pop on the potty? Please share your ideas in the comments section.
